The world-changing Climate Change Act
The UK’s Climate Change Act 2008 is a pioneering legislation that legally commits the government to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 100% of 1990 levels (Net Zero) by 2050.This Act mandates the setting of legally binding carbon budgets, each spanning five years, to serve as interim targets towards the 2050 goal. It also established the Climate Change Committee (CCC), an independent body tasked with advising the government on emissions targets and assessing progress.
